Exams
Artemis runs exams in the browser. You work through the exercises inside a fixed window of time, hand in, and later see your results and your grade in the same place.

Before You Start
You need a stable internet connection — a wired one if you have the choice — and a current browser. Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome and Edge get the most testing.
If your exam contains programming exercises, check with your instructor whether you are expected to work in the browser, in your own editor, or either. If you may use your own machine you need the toolchain for the exercise's language installed and working before the exam, along with a Git client. Most editors have one built in. Setting up repository access, including SSH keys, is described under Integrated Code Lifecycle — do it in advance, not on the day.
What Happens If Your Connection Drops
Artemis tolerates a short outage. Text, quiz and modeling exercises keep working while you are offline, though you may see warnings that your work cannot be saved; when the connection returns, Artemis saves it. Your work is saved every 30 seconds and whenever you move between exercises.
Programming exercises are different, because they need the server. In the online editor you have to submit explicitly, and if you work in your own editor you need a connection to clone at the start and to push at the end.
Two Rules Worth Following
Do not reload the page. Reloading returns you to the welcome screen, where you have to enter your name and confirm the rules again. Reload only if something has broken in a way nothing else fixes.
Work in one tab. Two tabs on the same exam cause your work to be saved out of order, and the pattern is recorded as suspicious behaviour that your instructors will look into. Other Artemis tabs are fine, as long as only one of them has the exam open.
