Take an Exam

Find Your Exam

An upcoming exam appears at the top of your course overview, and you can also reach it through the course and its exams. It only becomes visible shortly before the working time starts, so do not worry if you cannot see it the day before.

The Welcome Screen

The welcome screen carries everything you need to know about the exam — read it rather than skimming it, because it is where your instructor puts the rules that apply.

To continue you tick the checkbox confirming you have read the rules, type your full name, and choose Start Exam. Your typed name is your signature; the name Artemis has on record for you is shown under the field, so match it.

If the working time has already started, the exam opens immediately. If not, you wait — never more than five minutes — and a message tells you how long is left.

Work Through the Exam

The exercise overview lists every exercise in your exam with its title, type and points, and whether you have submitted anything for it yet.

The navigation sidebar on the left moves you between exercises and shows the state of each one: not yet started, changed but not saved, or saved and submitted. A counter at the top says how many of the total you have saved and submitted, which is the number to watch. You can collapse the sidebar to give the exercise more room, and still see each exercise's type and state.

Saving Your Work

Text, quiz and modeling exercises have a Save button, and selecting any exercise in the sidebar also saves and submits the one you are leaving. Between the two, your work is saved often without you thinking about it.

The other two types need an explicit action: a file upload exercise needs Upload, and a programming exercise needs Submit.

Watching the Clock

The bar across the top shows the time remaining and offers Hand in Early. The timer turns yellow when time is nearly up.

Hand In

You reach the end screen either by choosing Hand in Early or automatically when the working time ends. If you handed in early and changed your mind, Continue takes you back to the exercises.

As on the welcome screen, you confirm that you followed the rules and sign with your full name. The grace period your instructor configured is added to the timer here, so you have a little time after the working time ends in which to complete the hand-in.

Once you submit, nothing in any exercise can be changed.
