Signing In to Artemis from VS Code
You sign in with the same account you use in the browser, on one Artemis server at a time. The extension asks for your username first, and the server then decides how that account signs in.
Choosing the Server
The extension connects to https://artemis.tum.de unless you choose another server. The server it is about to use
is named at the bottom of the login page, next to Server:. Select that line, or run Artemis: Set Server URL
from the command palette, to pick a different one from the list or enter its address under Enter custom URL....
Changing the server while you are signed in signs you out, since your session is only valid on the server that issued it. In EduIDE the workspace fixes the server, and you cannot change it.
Signing In
Enter your username and select Continue. What the page shows next depends on how your account signs in.
If it uses a password, the page asks for it. Remember me on this device is checked by default and asks Artemis for a longer session, like the checkbox in the browser; uncheck it on a shared computer. Then select Login to Artemis.
If it uses single sign-on, the button reads Sign in with followed by the name of your identity provider. It opens the provider's login page in your browser. After you sign in there, the browser returns you to VS Code and the extension completes the sign-in.
Some single sign-on setups only work in the browser. For those accounts the page says that the extension cannot sign you in and asks you to log in on the Artemis website instead.
← Back returns to the username step if you entered the wrong one.
After a successful sign-in the extension opens its dashboard, or the page you chose as start page in the settings.
Signing In in EduIDE
In EduIDE you do not sign in at all. The workspace starts with your Artemis session already in place and the server fixed, so the extension opens straight to your exercise. If the session runs out while you work, the extension asks you to restart the workspace, which signs you in again.
Signing Out
Select Logout from Artemis at the bottom of the dashboard, or run Artemis: Logout from the command palette. Signing out removes the stored session from this computer. In EduIDE there is no logout, because the session belongs to the workspace.
When your session expires on its own, the extension tells you and offers Log In to sign in again.
